HMRC has confirmed that it has recovered £50m in unpaid tax through the Let Property Campaign.
Launched in September 2013, the Let Property Campaign aims to target residential property landlords who have undeclared rental income from properties they owned.
According to HMRC, over 10,000 private landlords have taken advantage of the voluntary disclosure facility in order to bring their tax affairs up to date.
The Let Property Campaign is now considered to be one of the most successful of HMRC’s 20 Campaigns since the government announced a major clampdown on tax avoidance and tax evasion in the UK.

Between April and October this year, HMRC launched 27 Taskforces with the remit of targeting certain industries and geographical areas in order to recover unpaid tax. Specific Taskforces targeting the retail, grocery and taxi industries as well as individuals in relation to hidden wealth and self assessment had been established.
HMRC also recently announced that Taskforces in the South West and in South Wales had recovered £20m in unpaid tax from the restaurant industry and in relation to VAT fraud.
Since they were first launched in 2011 HMRC Taskforces have recovered over £400m by tackling tax evasion and tax fraud.
